  • ICHIGO ICHIE(一期一会) is a Japanese proverb, literary means One Lifetime, One Meeting. It teaches us to cherish every moment we encounter as it occurs once in our lifetime. This teaching originates from the philosophy of the Japanese Tea Ceremony in the the16th century.
We tend to take it for granted for our routine activities, it happens today and tomorrow and goes on. But every moment is an encounter. ICHIGO ICHIE in our heart, we can keep our awareness to the present moment and cherish what is really happening in the now as it will be never the same again, everything that we encounter is once in our lifetime.
This is the episode of "5 minutes on Japanese Wisdom" by Azumi Uchitani, once a week, introducing the Japanese life philosophy that brings inner peace.
Check out more videos on The Japanese Art of Living, from the teachings of Tea Ceremony.

I have always been taken by the quote, "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man.", by the 5th century BC philosopher Heraclitus.
It seems a similar thought and yet in your philosophy of Ichigo Ichie feels deeper and more connected to; time that is always changing but also giving a sense of a lifelong experience to be appreciated.
Your presentation of these concepts induces much reflection on what I previously believed were very simple concepts.
    Thank you
    🌺

I have been in Tokyo 3 times, our encounters with people are like our encounters with birds and bugs. I am moving soon, and have a window bird feeder outside my window... I have many dozens of small birds sing and mingle here because of the feeder. There is a particular group that has a small red bird and a small female, and the female has an injured wing.. She survived a surprise Winter we just had, and I was so happy to see her amongst the many others. Thank you for the thorough explanation, I am happy to have provided to her and the others sustenance to survive Winter easier. Knowing we will still be together on this Earth, and have the rare opportunity to reunite some how some way again one day fills me with great happiness. Take care.

Wouldn’t it be nice if they could get the Middle East could stop wars long enough to allow each other to appreciate life.

    • @THK142
      @THK142 Месяц назад

To be fair the Geographical region “Middle East” in its capacity as piece of land is as far as I know it’s probably against war.
In effect all people living there are against war as well. Effectively nobody wants war anywhere including in the Middle East.
However a very small subset of people wants something specific and they have concluded that if doing war stuff is the easiest way they can achieve this within some given time frame is what they will result to.
And then the unfortunate part, due to this being the case over uncounted time and conflicts people on different side agrees to the different factions wanting war or not war usually called 🦅Hawk 🕊️ Dove
But I do get your sentiment I just wanted to look smart in the comment section by doing a bad Emulation of the Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein who took a special interest in language and that the how you used of words defined their meaning.
There is no quick fix, but perhaps if more and more understand (not saying I do) we can easier navigate to a solution over time.
Now, I have a date with a Chawan 🍵and some suspicious green powder.
      Take care
